Watching a child with a disability grow up is precious, and at the same time demanding. The care goes on day and night, next to work, brothers and sisters and ordinary family life. Good care at home gives your child what it needs and gives you as a parent room to breathe again.
What care at home can do
- Personal care: help with washing, dressing, eating and moving in and out of the wheelchair.
- Nursing: nursing tasks such as tube feeding or medication, by qualified professionals.
- Relief for parents: a familiar face your child knows, so you can take a breather.

Which scheme fits?
Care at home for children can fall under different laws. Nursing and personal care are often covered by the Health Insurance Act (intensive child care). Support at home usually runs through the Youth Act (Jeugdwet) of your municipality. If your child permanently needs care or supervision throughout the day, the CIZ can grant access to the Wlz. In many cases you can choose a personal budget (pgb) and decide yourself who provides the care.
