A wheelchair, a disability after an accident or a condition that makes you less mobile: it does not mean you have to leave your own home. With the right care and aids, you stay in control of your life. In this article you can read what help is available and how to arrange it.
What home care can do for you
- Personal care: help with washing, dressing, going to the toilet and getting in and out of bed.
- Nursing: for example wound care, medication or monitoring your health.
- Support: structure in your day, planning together and going outside, to the market or to an appointment.
The goal is always the same: that you can keep doing as much as possible yourself, with help where it is needed.
Aids and home adaptations
A wheelchair, a stairlift or an adapted bathroom is in most cases requested from your municipality, through the Wmo. The municipality looks at what you need together with you. A good home care provider thinks along: we see at home what is difficult and can help you explain it in the conversation with the municipality.
Which scheme suits you?
- Health Insurance Act (Zvw): personal care and nursing at home, after an assessment by a community nurse. No deductible.
- Wmo (municipality): support, aids and home adaptations.
- Long-term Care Act (Wlz): if you permanently need care or supervision nearby all day. The CIZ decides.
- Personal budget (pgb): you buy the care yourself, from a care provider of your choice.
Not sure which scheme suits you? Take the free care check: in about five minutes you get a first direction.
